Tori Richard, Ltd PV Project
Work has started on a solar-electric system. When complete, the 600+ photovoltaic panels will provide nearly 94% of the 1334 building’s electrical needs. It will generate 154 Kilo Watt Hours of electricity on an average sunny day here in Honolulu
Most of Honolulu’s electrical power comes from petroleum based generators. As a result, we have one of the highest electricity rates in the country. While the total cost of this system is about $1.1 million, the system pays for itself very quickly. Generous federal and state tax credits for alternative energy combined with very long average sunlight hours make Hawaii the best state in the country to do PV (photo-voltaic). While TR is certainly the first of it’s kind to become solar powered, these systems are starting to pop up all over the state. With the passage of the recent $700B “bailout”, Federal Solar Tax credits are extended. Our installation firm has work now fully booked through 2012!
